The BC Wildlife Federation’s Wetlands Education Program (WEP) needs your help to make a difference in BC communities. A non-profit program established in 1996, WEP is known for successfully delivering quality wetland education across the province. This program builds the capacity of communities to assess their wetland assets and, using this new knowledge, increase community & ecosystem health. WEP’s activities are built upon four core programs: the Wetland Institute workshop, Wetlandkeepers courses, Map our Marshes and Wild Kidz Camps. We are currently hiring a Wild Kidz Camp Facilitator Intern.
Wild Kidz Camp Facilitator Intern
The Wild Kidz Camp Facilitator Intern will work closely with the Wetlands Education Program Coordinator to plan, budget and deliver the 2014 Wild Kidz Summer day camps. This will include traveling to Peachland and Dawson Creek, BC to participate in the final programming. The Intern will also assist in the researching, planning and creating of wetland displays, educational materials, and outreach activities for children’s events. Responsibilities for this internship include:
- Plan and deliver two, week-long summer day camps for children aged 9-12.
- Research activities for children’s outdoor and environmental learning.
- Create educational outreach material/displays/etc.
- Attend the two camps in Peachland and Dawson Creek.
- Execute educational outreach on World Oceans Day (June 8)
- Assist with other WEP activities when necessary.
- The preferred candidate will be able to travel to the West Kootenays from May 22-June 4 to assist with the following workshops:
- Rossland Wetlandkeepers, May 23-25
- Meadow Creek Wetland Restoration Workshop, May 30-June 1
- Grand Forks Wetland Working Group, June 3
Qualifications:
- This position demands an individual with an outgoing personality, excellent verbal and communication skills and experience with children.
- Must be willing to have a criminal record check for working with youth.
- The candidate should demonstrate initiative, leadership and the ability to work on tasks with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines; ability to work on many projects at one time
- Ability to work well in a team setting
- Creativity and a good sense of humor are required.
- Must be able to attend camps on July 13-24th and August 10-16th.
- Must be a returning student.
Additional Assets:
- Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
- Interest in working outdoors
- Some knowledge or experience in outdoor education, recreation and ecology
